iciHaiti - Civil Protection : Simulation exercise of alert mechanisms
The General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, the World Bank and the World Food Program (WFP) recently organized a simulation exercise on Adaptive Social Protection (PSA) in Pétion-ville.

This exercise aimed to test the alert and cash transfer mechanisms for a rapid and effective response in the event of an emergency, in accordance with the cash transfer-based shock response operations manual, integrated into the Haitian National Disaster Risk Management System.

Many representatives of sectoral ministries and partners participated in this tabletop exercise. The main objectives were to:

- Publicize and test the procedures for triggering Adaptive Social Protection among government actors, United Nations agencies and civil society;
- Work on a potential crisis scenario;
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current system in order to improve it.

During the exercise, a scenario was set up simulating the passage of a major category 4 hurricane on the South coast. The response structures, including the PSA response committee and the DGPC, coordinated and implemented interventions to support the most vulnerable populations in the departments concerned.
