iciHaiti - Heritage : The BNE acquires a colonial boiler

The National Bureau of Ethnology (BNE) has acquired a colonial boiler for boiling sugar cane in preparation for a large exhibition project on the memory of slavery.

This boiler, which dates from the colonial period, reflects and bears witness to the period of slavery in Saint-Domingue. It also recalls times of misery, suffering and sadness. It made Saint-Domingue economically prosperous by serving as the main container for boiling sugar cane for sugar production.

As punishment, the colonists sometimes even threw slaves into these boiling boilers.

The National Bureau of Ethnology, despite the chaotic context, the projectile that sings in the heart of Port-au-Prince, despite pressures of all kinds, continues to play its role of safeguard in Haitian society.
