iciHaiti - Politic : OIDG condemns mass deportations of Haitian migrants

The International Observatory for Democracy and Governance (OIDG) condemns in the strongest terms the mass deportations of Haitians in an irregular migratory situation by the Dominican government. These practices are deeply racist and discriminatory. They constitute a flagrant violation of human rights and international conventions.

OIDG notes that, since coming to power in 2020, President Luis Abinader has tightened the Dominican Republic's migration policy, leading to a drastic increase in the expulsions of Haitian nationals. "This systematic repression only reinforces the already extremely difficult conditions and the stigmatization that Haitian migrants face in the Dominican Republic."

Faced with this critical situation, OIDG demands that the Haitian government assume its responsibilities and take concrete measures to ensure that the rights of our compatriots are respected. It is high time that Haitian leaders put an end to their internal struggles and focus on the real concerns of the Haitian population both inside and outside the country.
