Faced with the accelerating degradation of Morne L’Hôpital, Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, initiated strategic consultations with representatives of the Morne L’Hôpital Platform, which brings together community leaders from the neighborhoods overlooking this major ecological area. Through this approach, the Minister intends to strengthen ties with local stakeholders and position community organizations as full partners in the implementation of environmental policies.

This meeting is part of a renewed approach to public action championed by the Ministry, aiming to make environmental governance a central lever for stabilization, improving the quality of life, and ensuring a more effective state presence in local communities.

For over a decade, the Morne L’Hôpital Platform has been actively involved in monitoring and protecting this strategic ecosystem. On this occasion, its members alerted the Minister to the extent of the observed degradation, marked by increasing pressure linked to uncontrolled urbanization, the accumulation of waste in ravines and watersheds, and heightened vulnerability to flooding and natural hazards.

These observations reflect major challenges for public safety, the preservation of natural resources, and the resilience of urban areas. They call for a structured, coordinated, and long-term response.

In response, the Minister of the Environment reaffirmed the Government's commitment to taking concrete and targeted action. He highlighted a series of priority interventions, including the treatment of the most critical ravines and watersheds, the deployment of appropriate waste management solutions in hard-to-reach areas, and the establishment of a formal framework for collaboration with the Platform to ensure the continuity and effectiveness of the actions undertaken.
