Meds and Food for Kids fights against malnutrition in Haiti (video) 07/06/2026 10:03:18
The North Agricultural Sector Roundtable was held under the coordination of Agronomist Niva Orélus, head of the Sector Roundtable at the Northern Departmental Directorate of Agriculture (DDAN) of the Ministry of Agriculture. For this edition, participants welcomed representatives from Meds and Food for Kids (MFK), a non-profit organization founded in 2003 and dedicated to combating malnutrition in Haiti. During the presentation, MFK representatives outlined the organization's mission, which is to produce therapeutic foods for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, including Mamba, a peanut-based nutritional product used in several nutrition programs. The organization primarily operates in the North and Northeast departments. MFK representatives emphasized the importance of using local raw materials in their production process. To date, the organization has produced approximately 234 tons of nutritional products for the most vulnerable populations. The presentation also highlighted several challenges affecting the peanut sector, including insufficient production, non-compliance of some products with required quality standards, and the gradual abandonment of peanut cultivation by some producers. As part of its agricultural production support strategy, MFK is working to strengthen the capacities of peanut producers. Since 2019, nearly 1,900 producers have benefited from technical training. In 2024, the organization's interventions focused particularly on the municipalities of Limbe, Mombin-Crochu, and Sainte-Suzanne. Furthermore, the organization's representatives presented the main activities carried out in the field, including applied research, diagnostics, surveys, training, demonstrations, support for producers, and the development and dissemination of technical packages adapted to local realities. The discussions highlighted the important role played by MFK in improving food and nutritional security and strengthening the peanut sector in the North and Northeast of the country. This meeting provided participants with a space to share experiences and information, fostering a better understanding of the organization's actions and prospects for collaboration in support of sustainable agricultural development.
