The Carrefour Reception Centre school reopens after 4 years of closure
On Monday, September 7, 2026, the Carrefour Reception Center school officially reopened its doors after a four-year closure, welcoming approximately one hundred vulnerable children. This reopening was made possible thanks to the efforts of the Government, through the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST). Under the leadership of Minister Marc-Elie Nelson, the necessary steps were taken to ensure this effective reopening, thus facilitating children's access to education. This primary school primarily serves underprivileged children in the first cycle of basic education. Under the coordination of the Institute for Social Welfare and Research (IBESR), children rescued from the streets attend a remedial class before being integrated into the school's standard curriculum. This orientation session prepares them to receive instruction in a suitable environment. Ms. Félix Marie Rose Casemir, the Director of the Carrefour Reception Center School, emphasized the significance of this reopening during an inaugural ceremony and commended the Minister of Social and Economic Sciences (MAST) for his commitment to fulfilling his promises to the community's needy. Minister Marc-Elie Nelson is now intensifying strategic efforts to expand the school to include the second cycle of basic education, aiming to reach as many children as possible and promote better learning.
