iciHaiti - BRH : Recent evolution of the exchange rate and inflation

As part of its 47th anniversary celebrations, the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) offers some key insights to better understand the recent evolution of the exchange rate, net foreign exchange reserves, and inflation.

Exchange Rate Stability : The exchange rate has remained broadly stable for over two years. This stability reduces price fluctuations in the economy, particularly for imported goods, and improves the predictability of transaction costs for households and businesses.

Inflation Trends : Inflation stood at 18.9% in June 2026, compared to 32.2% in October 2025. This indicates a slowdown in the rate of price increases, thus a process of disinflation in the economy. This does not mean that prices are falling, but rather that they are rising less rapidly.

Despite this slowdown, inflation remains high, largely due to difficulties affecting the availability of goods and services. The BRH remains vigilant and continues to take action to limit monetary imbalances that could exacerbate price increases.

Foreign Exchange Reserves : The BRH's foreign exchange reserves stand at US$1.9 billion, representing approximately eight months of imports, compared to the three months recommended by the standard.

These reserves help strengthen the country's capacity to meet its external needs and support the stability of the foreign exchange market. They also guarantee the confidence of the public and the Central Bank's international partners.

Contribution to Growth : Supporting economic growth, and therefore job creation, is a key element of the BRH's mission and objectives. However, the effectiveness of this support also depends on security and a healthy business environment, based on good coordination with other aspects of public policy and systematic infrastructure maintenance. All of this is aimed at ensuring the deployment of investments and promoting consumption, two essential components for job creation and economic growth.
