The Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory located less than 100 nautical miles (185.2 km) from Haiti, are experiencing a rise in the number of Haitians with irregular migration status attempting to reach the archipelago's shores.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2026, during a maritime border security operation, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) announced that its marine unit had intercepted an overloaded wooden boat carrying 93 undocumented Haitian migrants within the territory's waters.

"The vessel was spotted and safely intercepted by RTCIPF officers before it could pose a risk to the safety of its occupants or the Turks and Caicos Islands," the police stated regarding the interception.

The 93 Haitians were brought ashore without incident and handed over to the Turks and Caicos Islands Border Force for processing and deportation to Haiti, authorities reported.

The previous day, authorities had intercepted another similarly overloaded vessel carrying 207 Haitians. According to officials, 1,375 Haitians have attempted to enter the Turks and Caicos Islands illegally since the beginning of the year.

Five days earlier, a joint operation involving several Turks and Caicos Islands agencies resulted in the interception of another overloaded boat carrying 171 Haitian migrants near Northwest Point on the island of Providenciales.
