Andris Riché elected President of the Senate
Thursday, after a special session organized by the Senate, Senator Andris Riché became President of the Senate. On 7 senators present, he obtained 5 votes for, one vote against and one abstention. He replaces former Senator Simon Desras Dieuseul whose term ended on 12 January. The office of the Senate is composed of Senators Andris Riché (President), Steven Irvenson Benoît (Secretary) and Fritz Carlos Lebon (Quaestor).

Arrest of 4 individuals in Cap-Haïtien
Between Saturday and Wednesday, 4 individuals were arrested in Cap-Haïtien, two escaped from prison and an ex-convict who received a presidential pardon in December. They are accused among other kidnapping and robbery, according to local police.

Tourism: Signing of an agreement with Spain
Thursday has been signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Industries (MTIC) and the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism of the Kingdom of Spain around the cooperation between the two countries in regard to tourism on the basis of equality of mutual benefits.

Work stoppage at the ONA
On Wednesday, a work stoppage was held at the National Old Age Insurance Office (ONA) to require the Director General, Emmanuel Ménard, the respect of the privileges granted to employees by the organic law of the institution. In addition, the employees' union, claims the continuation of reintegration process of unfairly dismissed employees by Ménard's predecessor.

US Investments in the health sector
Thursday, Florence Duperval Guillaume, the Minister of Health, attended the summit on the impact of the US Government investment in the health sector in Haiti.
