iciHaiti - NOTICE : Towards the construction of a Currency Museum
The Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), launched a call for expressions of interest for the selection of a firm to supervise the construction of the Museum of money, in fact, the BRH is seeking to recruit a firm of engineer/architect able to realize the supervision of the construction of the Currency Museum to be approximately (3,720 m2 on 3 floors. This building will be located at the corner of the streets of Quai and Miracles.

The first use of the gourde date of 1813. It replaced the pound with an exchange rate of 1 gourde = 8 pounds 5 pennies. In 1870 and 1872, the gourde was revalued, the first time from 10 to 1, and the second time from 300 to 1. At the time, there were only paper. The word piastre was sometimes used, especially on a note of 1875. In 1881, the exange rate was indexed to the French franc at 5 francs = 1 gourde. The convertibility of the franc was suspended in 1912 and the gourde was indexed to the US dollar at the rate of 5 gourdes per dollar. This indexation was abandoned in 1989 and the rate is now floating.
