In a statement, the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) of the Dominican Republic, stated that it had seen a "significant" increase in drug seizures in the vicinity of Haiti stating that "The stricter controls implemented by the DNCD and its allies in the fight against narcotic trafficking, forced the international traffickers to divert their vessels from South America to the Haitian coast."
