West : The FNE distributes thousands of school furniture
The National Education Fund (FNE) in Haiti plans to distribute more than 8,000 two-seater benches (as well as chairs) nationally as part of the launch of the 2026-2027 school year. This initiative arises from a national call for tenders launched by the FNE in June 2026 divided into four geographical lots of 2,000 benches each (West Department, Great South, Great North and Hinche/Artibonite). Although the overall deployment was announced at the start of the school year in September, field operations, monitoring and management continue throughout this end-of-year period. This large-scale operation is part of the budget for the fiscal year and the new school year under the theme Yon lekòl pou tout moun (A school for all). The FNE mobilizes its resources to strengthen reception capacities and improve learning conditions in public and community schools in the West department. This first distribution phase concerns 8 educational establishments : Horacius L’Aventure High School; Ecuador National School; Republic of Canada National School (1st and 2nd cycles); Republic of Canada National School (3rd cycle); National School Dominican Republic; National School of Argentina; Lélia L’Hérisson National School; Sister Teresa National School, Calcutta. Operations will continue continuously in the West department and throughout the territory, in order to extend this initiative to more schools. Ms. Jefnie Toussaint, General Director of the FNE, as well as Vijonet Déméro, the Minister of National Education, personally led several evaluation and supervision visits to the field, to ensure the progress of the projects and the appropriateness of the materials distributed to real needs. The distribution of these thousands of school furniture is only one part of a larger support program managed by the FNE and the Haitian Government for this start of the school year. Along with the benches, thousands of kits containing books, notebooks and supplies are also distributed. The plan also provides for the rehabilitation of more than 50 schools across the country and a strengthening of the partnership with the National School Canteen Program (PNCS) to guarantee the distribution of hot meals to students.
