iciHaiti - Politic : First woman of Haitian origin elected to Quebec Parliament 22/11/2015 10:54:01
The engineer Dominique Anglade, woman politician and businesswoman of Haitian origin (born in Montreal), won this month in Quebec byelection in the riding of Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne, with 38.64% of the vote before the PQ Gabrielle Lemieux (29.89%). She is approached to take up a ministerial portfolio in the event of a reshuffle of the Liberal government led by Prime Minister of Quebec, Philippe Couillard. With this victory, Dominique Anglade joined the short list of Quebecers of Haitian origin to be elected at the federal and provincial level in Canada after Jean Alfred (provincial, first black deputy in Quebec), Emmanuel Dubour (provincial and federal) and Viviane Barbot (federal). Dominique Anglade has a degree in industrial engineering from the Polytechnic School of Montreal and holds a Master of Business Administration from HEC Montreal and speaks five languages.
