Co-financed by France, the United States and the Haitian Government to the tune of 83 million US dollars, the reconstruction of the Hospital of the State University of Haiti (HUEH) the largest public hospital in Port-au-Prince, destroyed 50% during the earthquake of 12 January 2010, is continuing. With a hundred workers present at the site, the metal structures of five of the ten buildings planned gradually emerge.

Recall that the demolition of non-reusable building and rehabilitation of preservable buildings took place in 2011 and 2012. The maternity hospital was rehabilitated and opened in March 2013. Preparation work of the site began on 1 October 2013. A transitional hospital was installed on the old military hospital site to ensure continuity of care and services during the construction of new buildings.

The construction of new buildings began in January 2014. The new HUEH will offer 534 inpatient beds. The new buildings will represent 20,000 m2 (for a total built area of 25,800 m2).
