Although the April 3rd, 2024 Agreement establishing the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) in Haiti sets February 7, 2026, as the swearing-in date for the elected president, with seven months to go, the date for the general elections has not yet been set. This date also marks the end of the CPT's mandate.

In this regard, Joseph André Gracien Jean, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Electoral and Constitutional Affairs, expressed optimism about the progress of these processes.

"So far, we are moving forward as planned. We cannot yet give dates for the referendum or the elections. Certain conditions must be met, and once met, we can move forward," he stated.

This optimism comes amid concerns about the country's security, given that armed gang violence could affect the progress of both processes.
