iciHaiti - Agriculture : Vaccination of chickens against Newcastle disease
Friday, Lyonel Valbrun, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development announced that due to the drought that weakens especially poultry, a Chicken Creole vaccination campaign against Newcastle disease will take place during the period of Lent (46 days).

Recall that the Newcastle disease is an avian influenza, it should not be confused with the bird flu, the symptoms are the same and only a laboratory can distinguish them. The virus responsible for the disease is deemed zero at almost zero-for humans. The virus therefore has no significant impact on the safety of poultry products and eggs for human consumption

This vaccination campaign aiming close to a million Haitian peasant families who practice farming of native chicken, a market whose benefits are estimated at more than $50 million per year. The Minister Valbrun stressed that if the hens are not vaccinated, the peasant economy will not be protected. 1,500 veterinary officers will be responsible for vaccination through 10 departments. The cost of this vaccine has been fixed at 10 Gourds by poultry vaccination which must be renewed annually for poultry remains protected.
