iciHaiti - Politics : Prime Minister of TCI «Promises to regularize haitians»...
Prime Minister Rufus Ewing would have promised to regularize the Haitians born in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) and to direct them on the path of citizenship once re-elected.

Sunday any residents were furious to learn that the leader of the Progressive National Party (PNP) had visited several Haitian churches for inciting these congregations to vote for his party in the upcoming elections.

Many took social media to express their feelings about the Prime Minister's visits, qualifying them as discourteous and impious. Others blamed the Prime Minister for promising to make Haitians legal by amending existing immigration laws.

In response Ewing explqined "I was invited by the pastors [...] i fact I was invited by all of them to come and speak to their congregation." He dismissed rumors that he was promising Belonger status to Haitians. "I wasn’t promising Belonger status, I was basically just saying that those individuals, those children who were born here, who came here all of their lives, those individuals who deserve to be here, they have nowhere to go. They don’t know Haiti, some of them never seen Haiti, right, so we need to regularize those persons, embrace them, empower them so they can move on to the pathway to citizenship. This exists now.
