Haiti - Mexico :  To Tijuana of Haitians Celebrates the independence of Haiti
On 1 January, the 213th anniversary of Haiti's independence, was celebrated in Tijuana, Mexico (Baja California) by thousands of illegal Haitians attempting to enter the United States in search of work and a better life...

On this occasion, young priest Webhert Maryland of Haitian origin celebrated a Mass (without authorization) in the small church "San Felipe de Jesus", located between the "Casa del Migrante" and the House of Mother Assunta at the Avenue Galileo, most Haitians because of lack of space have remained outside sitting on the sidewalk...

Father Partrick Murphy, Director of the "Casa del Migrante", which houses about a hundred Haitian refugees, explained that on the occasion of the commemoration of the independence of Haiti was served the traditional soup "Joumou" explaining that this soup that before being independent the slaves cooked it but they were forbidden to eat it. Following independence this soup became a symbol of their freedom.

Voudrigue Normida, a Haitian migrant, said he was far from his country, but that this event filled him with joy because he reminded him of his origins especially with the soup "Joumou".
