At the first exchange workshop between Haitian cartoonists « Démocraturistes » organized by the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince at the Montana Hotel, Bourdon (24 to Thursday 26 January), bringing together 21 new-generation cartoonists including among others : Teddy Mombrun, Jerry Boursiquot et Francisco Silva ; US Ambassador Peter F. Mulrean accredited in Haiti, declared at the workshop :
"In Haiti, I find that freedom of expression is well exercised in the press through reports and editorials that analyze or criticize a situation. I appreciate what they have to say even when I do not agree, even when the subject is me or the policy of the United States, because public debate is essential to democracy [...] at the Embassy we are proud to support workshops like this one because we value the role of the press in strengthening democracy in Haiti."
