Wednesday, Jude Alix Patrick Salomon, the Minister of Economy and Finance and Marielle Sander, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA-Haiti) signed an agreement on the 5th General Population Census and habitat in Haiti, scheduled for 2018.

With this in mind, the Haitian Institute of Statistics (IHSI) will initiate a census pilot project at the end of this year in order to run the system in anticipation of the major census campaign in 2018. The IHSI and its partners, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and UNFPA, have already taken several steps for this 5th census, including mapping and territorial planning.

It should be noted that the latest general population and habitat census in Haiti dates back to 2003. The data provided an estimate of the country's territorial population of about 8.4 million.
