iciHaiti - History : The Haitian flag, symbol of freedom, unity and national pride

As part of the 214th anniversary of the creation of our bicolor, in memory of this founding act, the Museum of the Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) has the duty to revive the ideal of our Fathers to perpetuate the feeling of respect with regard to our bicolor.

"The Haitian Flag Symbol of Liberty, Unity and National Pride, the Haitian Flag is the result of a Gesture of Consolidation. On May 18, 1803, our ancestors, blacks and mulattoes, thirsting to live as a free people and vowing to endow the land of Haiti with the status of independent territory, all rallied to the authority of a single Chief, the General Jean-Jacques Dessalines and opted for an emblem: the bicolor blue and red.

This flag has guided them until the end of their noble dream: Independence. Object of patriotism, the Haitian flag has not ceased to accompany the people, throughout its history. It has gone through times of trial, but also had moments of glory. The Haitian nation was born with the creation of its banner, the 28th Floreal of the year XI, that is to say, the 18th of May, 1803."
