Strategic project entitled Native Tourism in Haiti

The Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, has launched the first round of discussions on a new strategic project entitled Native Tourism. This initiative aims to engage the Haitian diaspora, as well as several other public institutions and partners involved in the country's development, to give a new direction to the tourism sector.

The Native Tourism project aims to develop a new vision that places the diaspora at the heart of Haiti's tourism strategy. It is based on promoting the country's natural, historical, and cultural riches, while encouraging Haitians living abroad to return to rediscover their roots, visit the country more often, and actively participate in the economic and social development of their communities.

Haiti possesses exceptional tourism potential. With its historical heritage, the memory of the first independent Black republic, its beautiful beaches, mountains, gastronomy, crafts, and rich cultural diversity, the country has all the assets to attract the Haitian diaspora as well as visitors from around the world.

Through the Native Tourism initiative, the two ministries aim to create a new dynamic that fosters collaboration between government institutions and the private sector, showcasing all that Haiti has to offer and enhancing the experience of every member of the diaspora who chooses to return to visit the country.

This initial meeting marks the launch of a reflection and planning process that will lead to the development of a stronger, more sustainable, and more inclusive tourism model for the diaspora. This will enable them to play a central role as Ambassadors for Haiti, partners in promoting the destination, and key players in tourism development and the national economy.
