iciHaiti - Health : 150,000 people live today with AIDS in Haiti

For the UN organization UNAIDS, Haiti is considered as a priority country to end AIDS by 2030 as a threat to public health.

The number of HIV-positive people currently receiving medical treatment in Haiti more than tripled from 2010 to 2016, or 93,796. To date nearly 150,000 people are living with AIDS in Haiti and the prevalence is higher among girls than boys

The national response to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV / AIDS) has intensified in recent years, particularly from 2014 to 2016, to keep the trajectory of the epidemic stable at a national prevalence level of 2 %, hoping for a reversal of the trend towards 2020.

According to revised estimates in 2016, facilitated by UNAIDS, 1,954 people were infected in 2015, compared to 5,102 in 2010, a 62% decrease over the period.

Pregnant women, for their part, have benefited from better care for their health and to prevent mother-to-child transmission.
