iciHaiti - FLASH : The Dominican Government strengthens surveillance and defense measures at the border
On Monday, June 30, 2025, during his weekly press briefing, President Luis Abinader announced that the Dominican Government had intensified surveillance and defense measures in the border area in response to the worsening crisis in Haiti and the strengthening of armed gangs operating there.

Abinader emphasized that the use of drones by Haitian gangs is a real concern for Dominican authorities and that preventive measures are being taken in coordination with the Ministry of Defense.

"We are strengthening our response capacity for drone management at the border. I can't go into all the details for security reasons, but we are ready."

The Head of State also reiterated that the Government is maintaining benefits and incentives for military, police, and customs officers assigned to the border area, as part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at consolidating the State's presence and preventing the infiltration of illegal immigrants.

These statements come amid growing instability in Haiti, marked by the potential departure of the Kenyan contingent leading the international mission https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45210-haiti-flash-kenya-could-withdraw-from-haiti.html , which raises new concerns about the control of Haitian territory by armed groups.

Abinader assured that his Government would continue to closely monitor the situation and collaborate with international organizations to avoid any repercussions in the Dominican Republic.
