World Food Program (WFP) officials in Jimaní, Dominican Republic, test drones to deliver humanitarian supplies in the event of natural disasters or other emergencies in border areas with difficult access.

William Vigil, the WFP Country Representative, explained that the Dominican Republic had been selected for this pilot test at the border because of the technical facilities and resources available to test this process.

These experiments were conducted in coordination with the Emergency Operations Center and with the support of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation, the city of Jimani and the Dominican Red Cross.

If these tests prove conclusive, WFP could use this technology in Haiti in the future.
