iciHaiti - Riots : DR strengthens its border security

Sunday, following riots that have been going on for 3 days in Haiti, after the announcement of a sharp rise in the price of fuel at the pump and despite the suspension of this decision by the Haitian authorities a few hours later, the Lieutenant-General Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, Minister of Defense announced that he has secured the Dominican Embassy in Port-au-Prince and confirmed the evacuation of the accredited diplomatic and consular corps in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24896-haiti-news-zapping.html

Moreover, the Minister informs that he ordered the reinforcement of surveillance at the border, mainly in the cities of Jimaní and Elías Piña (South-West), closer to the Haitian capital, recalling "The armed forces are still on alert against anyone who tries to cross the border and tomorrow (Monday) will be held the binational markets at the four traditional border points, in the cities of Elías Piña, Jimaní, Dajabón (Northeast) and Pedernales (Southwest) where Dominicans and Haitians exchange goods and products of all kinds every Monday and Friday. To this end, the authorities have reinforced the military and police staff operating in these 4 cities.
