iciHaiti - Economy : Binational market canceled, transport of goods to Haiti paralyzed
Given the chaotic, violent and confusing situation in Haiti, including along the border and in particular to Haitian customs in Fond Parisien (Malpasse), customs administrations in Jimaní and Dajabón were closed Monday, to guarantee the safety of employees informed the Dominican Customs General Directorate.

Sunday, on the Haitian side vehicles were torched and looting have been observed, while the immigration offices and Malpasse customs were looted and partially burned by Haitian angry.

The crisis in Haiti has prevented the holding of the binational market that is held on Monday and Thursday of each week at the border point of Malpasse, for lack of customers and sellers. There was intense tension in retail outlets and stores where merchants store goods, fearing looting.

Moreover, since Friday, Dominican carriers have stopped the delivery of goods in Haiti, can not having security guarantee, for their truck, their goods and their lives. Ricardo de los Santos, the President of the Dominican National Transport Federation confirmed to us that the transport of goods to Haiti was paralyzed stressing "we do not have reports that there have been problems, in Haiti with one of our members, but we do not enter to prevent any risk of incident," saying that this situation will continue until the return to calm in Haiti and that the safety of Dominican carriers is again guaranteed.
