iciHaiti - Social : Trafficking of Haitian children at the Dominican border
Thursday, the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR) warned again, against the trafficking of Haitian children on the border with the Dominican Republic, a recurring illegal activity according to the institute.

Nearly 150 children cross daily border points to the neighboring country, said Filicien Rolbert, managers of the IBESR in Ouanaminthe, noting that some of them, victim of trafficking are accompanied by the trafficker explaining "Our job is to protect , allow and monitor the passage of children in the Dominican Republic. We are here to check if they are not child victims or at risk of trafficking."

Human trafficking affects more than 20 million people worldwide and is considered an illegal trade of human beings for purposes such as labor, mental and reproductive slavery, as well as sexual exploitation, forced labor or any other form of modern slavery.

Rolbert also warned that minors who arrive at the border, accompanied by adults without the permission of IBESR or legal travel documents, may be considered at risk of trafficking and that persons accompanying these children may be arrested.

Remember that last December, a binational committee was created to protect children in the border area following a forum bringing together actors from the infant defense chain of the two nations.
