iciHaiti - Social : IDB investigates gender violence and internal migration

As part of the Country Strategy with Haiti (2017-2021) and in order to contribute to the coordination of public policies to eliminate gender violence, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has prepared two surveys on the perception of the gender-based violence and also on motivations for internal displacement (migration) of the population.

These surveys were launched this week and will continue until October 1st, targeting the zones of influence of the main industrial parks of the country: Caracol Industrial Park (PIC), Metropolitan Industrial Park (PIM), and the Development Company Industrial (CODEVI). The target audience will include women, men, and adolescents. Taking advantage of the penetration rate of mobile phones that is more than 60% in Haiti, questions will be launched by robocall (pre-recorded calls) in partnership with DIGICEL.

Any holder of a mobile phone on the DIGICEL network in the identified areas will receive a phone call and will be able to answer the pre-recorded questionnaires using the keyboard of his mobile phone. The survey will ask responders to press button 1 or 2 for their choice of answers. This survey will be available on any type of phone, no matter if it is "smart" or an "ede'm peze". The survey number is (509) 2814-3456; these calls will be free and will take place at specific times (7:00 am to 12:30 pm and 5:30 pm). Surveys have 10 questions and take no more than 4 minutes to complete.

The data collected will be strictly anonymous, answering machines will not have to identify themselves and the mobile numbers will not be registered.

In addition, since the beginning of August, the women's organizations "Asosyasyon Fanm Soley D Ayiti" (AFASDA), the Center for the Promotion of Women Workers (CPFO) and the "Komisyon Fanm Nòdes" (KOFANE), have led awareness campaigns in the areas concerned to mobilize the population and encourage them to respond to calls.
