On Saturday, Miguel Bejarán, Director of the Directorate General of Border Development (DGDF) declared that the number of Haitian pregnant women giving birth in the Dominican Republic was decreasing due to the increased vigilance and the number of troops deployed by the military authorities to the Haitian-Dominican border.

He believes that the control of the border by the Dominican army and CESFRONT was essential to reduce the number of Haitian pregnant women entering the Dominican Republic, while recognizing that although this traffic was better controlled, it did not not been eliminated.
