iciHaiti - Dajabón : A Haitian merchant brutalized by a Dominican soldier
Sunday, October 28, several Haitian merchants who tried to cross illegally on the Dominican territory to buy products for resale in Haiti were intercepted by Dominican soldiers who would have demanded, according to their testimony 100 pesos to each for the to let's them in.

After recovering the sum of some merchants, one of the military would have ordered them to return to Haiti by threatening them with his weapon causing panic among Haitians. During their escape, one of the merchants Wideline Saint Charles, 25 years old mother of 3 children, from Gonaives fell.

According to testimonies reported by the Repatriated and Refugee Support Group (GARR), the Dominican soldier allegedly beat Wideline violently with his weapon causing a fracture in his left arm.

The young Haitian was taken to the hospital by another Dominican soldier. His attacker was allegedly placed in police custody according to the GARR, which is concerned about the way in which Dominican soldiers treat Haitian merchants on the Haitian-Dominican border. GAAR is calling on Haitian diplomatic representatives in Dajabon to accompany the victim to seek justice.
