Many illegal Haitians on Dominican territory, are devoted to agriculture in unauthorized areas including El Convento of the Valle Nuevo reserve, in Constanza, after the Ministry of the Environment has banned agricultural crops in the reserve and expelled Dominican farmers from the areas concerned

According to a census conducted by local associations in the region, out of 699 people living in the communities of La Curva and El Convento, in the area of ​​influence of Valle Nuevo, 590 are Haitians without paper.

"They are everywhere and move freely, without any authority disturbing them ! [...] how did they get there, who is responsible for turning this region into a small Haiti ?" wonders Odalís Plasencia an angry Dominican peasant adding "there are many more to come, because many Haitians spent several days in the agricultural plots of El Castillo and Siberia among others [...]"

José Furcal, a farm worker from the Los Peralta region of Azua, who lives in El Convento, said he plans to return to his hometown, as illegal Haitians force the displacement of Dominican workers, lamenting that plots, greenhouses and farms where agriculture is allowed use illegal Haitian workers, leaving Dominicans unemployed.

Let us hope that the Dominican authorities react and take the measures to enforce the labor and environmental law in this region, before the anger won the Dominican population and that be exercised retaliation against our compatriots...
