iciHaiti - Canada : A bridge in Quebec bears the name of a Haitian 23/02/2019 09:34:58
On Thursday, to mark Black History Month, the Commission de toponymy of Quebec confirmed that the Highway 50 bridge across the Outaouais River that crosses the Petite Nation River between the municipalities of Plaisance and Lochaber Township, will be named the Jean-Alfred Bridge. Recall that Jean-Alfred, born March 10, 1940 in Ounaminthe, Haiti, died in 2015 in Gatineau, Canada was a committed teacher and politician who never stopped building ties between Quebecers and the Haitian community. He was the first black elected to the National Assembly of Quebec in 1976 as Deputy of the constituency of Papineau (1976-1980) under the first mandate of René-Lévesque. Note that this bridge is at the heart of the riding that Jean-Alfred represented for 4 years. IH/ iciHaiti
