iciHaiti - DR : Increase of deportations of Haitians in June

The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) informs that in June, 7,424 Haitians living in Dominican territory in violation of the law on migration have been deported following control operations and 2,941 Haitians were returned to the border then they were trying to enter the Dominican Republic illegally, a total of 10,365 Haitians.

After the deportation of 1,138 compatriots from 1 to 5 July https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-28237-icihaiti-dr-1138-haitians-deported-in-5-days.html , the DGM informs that from 8 to 12 July, it carried out migration control operations in 11 provinces : Azua, Dajabón, Duarte, Espaillat, La Vega, Montecristi, Santiago de los Caballeros, Santo Domingo, Santiago Rodriguez, Puerto Plata, Valverde and in the nationam district in which 1,373 Haitian nationals were screened.

The migratory control teams were composed of inspectors, agents of the DGM with the support of the military, the National Police, the body specialized in the security of the tourism (CESTUR), agents of the environment in coordination with the Public Ministry of the Provinces concerned.

After the verification process using biometric readers, 1,121 compatriots (81.6%) did not have legal documents to remain in Dominican territory and were declared in an irregular migration situation. They were taken to the border posts of Dajabón and Elías Piña, to be registered and deported to Haiti after warning the authorities of the neighboring country.

According to the Support Group for Repatriated and Refugees (GARR) Dominican authorities have increased their migratory controls during the first six months of the year, reporting that from January to June 2019, 52,510 cases of deportation of Haiti were identified at the level of official and unofficial border points between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Note that the figure of the GAAR deportations are different from those cited by the DGM, as the GARR includes deportations made by the Dominican authorities to unofficial border crossings, which the DGM does not document.
