On Saturday August 15 the internationally renowned painter and sculptor, Ghislaine Fortuney Lamothe (85), mother of former Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe, died of a heart problem.

In a note, Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe said to have learned with sadness the death of Ghislaine Fortuney Lamothe writes "The disappearance of Ms. Lamothe, constitutes a great loss for the artistic world in general and for Haiti."

Recalling that Ms. Lamothe "through her works has always emphasized the greatness, courage and talents of Haitian women. This earned him the 1969 Originality Award in Barcelona (Spain)."

The Head of Government said he joined the entire ministerial cabinet in offering "[...] his deepest sympathies to all his family grieved by this immense loss, in particular to the former Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe."
