On its Facebook account, the Ministry of National Education says it has learned with sadness the news of the death of professor-unionist Jean Marie Hardy Pierre, which occurred on Saturday October 3, 2020.

"[...] Emeritus educator, wise, open and respectful, tolerant, humanist, Professor Jean Marie has trained several generations of students at the Institution Saint Louis de Gonzague, at the colleges of Saint Pierre, Saint Louis de Bourdon, Cote Plage and Canapé Vert and at Anténor Firmin and Louis Joseph Janvier high schools of Carrefour.

Founder of the National Confederation of Haitian Teachers (CNEH) in April 1986, he was Advisor to the Executive Board of this organization, instigator and host of the program "La voix des enseignants".

A man of integrity and of great culture, Jean Marie Hardy Pierre is definitely a model for young teachers and trade unionists today.

The Ministry expresses its sympathies to his family, friends and relatives and to all the great family of the CNEH.

May his ideas and his spirit of openness and dialogue guide the rising generation of teachers and trade unionists for the overhaul of education and of our dear Haiti."
