iciHaiti - Heritage : Monitoring of the Jacmel Iron Market restoration project 08/10/2020 11:04:56
Funded by AECID to the tune of 600,000 Euros, this work, which is part of the "Institutional capacity building project of the city of Jacmel for urban management, heritage recovery and local economic development" aims to contribute to economic development from the city of Alcibiades Pommayrac. Learn more : Alcibiade Pommayrac (1844-1908) born November 22, 1844 in Santo Domingo, left the Dominican capital with his parents at 1 year old to settle in Jacmel where he studied. Lawyer at the Jacmel bar, director of the city's customs, architect and entrepreneur, his name is associated with the construction of many public buildings : the iron market, the town hall which has become the courthouse and the city Hall. The central iron market was commissioned by the mayor-poet in 1895 from the steelworks of Bruges, (Belgium) and testifies to the prosperity that the city enjoyed until its decline in 1930.
