iciHaiti - Environment: 385 earthquakes in 9 months
In its monthly bulletin for the month of September 2020, the Technical Unit of Seismology (UTS) of the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME) reveals that the national and regional seismological networks recorded in Haiti 41 no deep earthquakes (between 2 and 100 km deep) of magnitudes between 1.3 and 4.0 on the Richter scale.

Geologist Claude Prépetit Director of the BME specifies that this number of earthquakes is 14.6% lower than in August when 48 earthquakes were recorded

The 3 departments most affected by earthquakes in September are the Northwest (11 earthquakes), South-East (11) and West, (10 earthquakes) representing 78% of all cases reported at the level national.

In addition, 61.9% of recorded earthquakes occurred at sea and could have caused tsunamis if their magnitudes had been higher.

From January to September, 385 small earthquakes were reported mainly in the North-West (136) and South-East (99).
