The President of the Association of Haitian Economists, Eddy Labossière, criticized the statements of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the strong appreciation of the Gourde, but that the IMF remains silent when it devalues.
"When the exchange rate threatened to reach 130 gourdes to the dollar and the purchasing power of the poorest collapsed, the IMF remained silent. Why is he speaking now that the situation is reversed ?" wonders economist Labossière.
For the President of the Association of Haitian Economists, the problem must be addressed within the framework of a national conference, in order to change the paradigm, because "the Haitian population is no longer ready to pay the price of a monetary policy risky."
