Following the sinking of the boat "Eklezyas" from Anse-à-Pitre bound for Marigo which occurred during the night of Friday October 29 to Saturday October 30 around 4:00 am, off Grosse Pointe, due to an overload of goods and passengers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-35124-haiti-flash-shipwreck-off-grosse-pointe-at-least-39-victims.html , Eric Prévost Jr., General Manager of the Service Maritime et de Navigation d'Haiti (SEMANAH) went on site and took advantage of its meeting with the local authorities to announce several decisions and measures necessary to prevent such accidents.

Thus he announced : the dismissal of 4 agents representing SEMANAH in Anse-à-Pitres who did not prevent the overloaded ship from going to sea.

That arrangements have been made to initiate proceedings against the captain of the "Eklezyas"

Provisions allowing local authorities to support and better collaborate judicially with representatives of institutions that control whether the Ships comply with national and international standards for sea taking.

Eric Prévost Jr. sends his condolences to the victims and reminds ship captains and passengers to follow the advice of the authorities on the safety of people and property at sea.

According to René Danneau, the Mayor of Marigot at least 20 people died in this wreck, including 6 women and 2 babies.
