iciHaiti - Dajabón : Helicopters and aircraft monitor the border

Friday in Dajabón, a helicopter and an army plane as well as motorized all-terrain patrols, under the command of Brigadier General German Rosario Pérez, commander of the Fourth Brigade, constantly monitor the border. If it is calm on the Dominican side, on the other side of the border reigns a climate of high tension.

From the sky, the surveillance is permanent and the troops on the ground constantly browse the border. On the other side one see on the banks of the Massacre River, dozens of Haitians trying to cross illegally into Dominican territory, fleeing the climate of violence and terror of their country.

In the early hours of the day, bursts of automatic weapons were reported in the border strip by the community of La Vigía, where the inhabitants could not sleep. The interception and arrest of many Haitians who tried to enter Dominican territory illegally was observed.

Despite the situation in Haiti, a few Haitian traders have timidly crossed the border to participate in the bi-weekly bilateral border market of Dajabón to buy products and goods that are increasingly rare in Haiti...

In the free zone of the CODEVI group, security measures have been taken where most factories have closed their warehouses to prevent the infiltration of unauthorized persons into these workplaces. Only shipping and loading areas still work.
