iciHaiti - FLASH : Cholera has more than doubled in 48 hours

According to the Department of Epidemiology, Laboratories and Research (DELR) of the Ministry of Public Health, the cholera situation on October 5, 2022 in Haiti was as follows :

Total suspected cases: 111 (the day before 52 + 113%)

Total confirmed cases: 11 (the day before 5 +120%)

Total suspected cases hospitalized: 107 (the day before 41 + 160%)

Total institutional death: 2 (the day before 1 + 100%)

Samples received: 52 (the day before 26 +100%)

Tests carried out: 23 (the day before 9 + 155%)

Pending tests 29 (the day before 17 + 70%)

Distribution of suspected cases:

Central Department:

Mirebalais: 2 cases

West Department:

Cité Soleil: 41 cases

Croix-des-Bouquets: 1 case

Delmas: 8 cases

Petion-ville: 4 cases

Port-au-Prince: 55 cases

Departmental definitions:

Suspicious Case:

Anyone with acute watery diarrhea, profuse, with or without vomiting, with or without dehydration.

Probable case:

Any suspected case with a positive rapid diagnostic test (validated by the LNSP)

Confirmed Case:

Any suspect or probable case with a positive culture for "Viri cocholerae"

Hospitalized case:

Any suspected, probable or confirmed case who spends at least 24 hours in a care institution

Death Institutional:

Any suspected, probable or confirmed case that dies in a caring institution

Community Death:

Any suspected case that dies outside a care institution
