Sunday, October 30, 2022, journalist Romelo Vilsaint was fatally injured in the courtyard of the Delmas 33 police station, during a solidarity movement to demand the release of Robest Dimanche, a reporter of Radio Télé Zénith, who was brutally arrested earlier in the day by the police for "disturbing public order and rebellion". Movement quickly repressed by the National Police of Haiti (PNH) which made intensive use of tear gas and live ammunition warning shots causing a situation of panic and great confusion.

According to diverging testimonies, Romelo Vilsaint was shot in the head by the police. At the hospital where he was taken to the emergency room, the conclusions of the neurosurgeon, reported by Agence France Presse, the journalist Romelo Vilsaint was fatally hit in the head by a tear gas canister.

Divisional Inspector Garry Desrosiers Spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) confirmed to the "Associated Press" (AP) that journalist Vilsaint had been killed, but refused to comment on the event.

Emmelie Prophète Milcé, the Minister of Communication on her Twitter account "deplores the tragedy that occurred on Sunday October 30, at the Delmas 33 police station, which caused the sudden death of journalist Romelo Vilsaint. The Minister is confident that an investigation will be opened to determine the circumstances in order to identify and prosecute the author or authors of this regrettable act."
