The latest statistical figures from the Directorate General of Migration (DGM) report in 2022, the repatriation to Haiti of 96,722 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation (including arrests by migration control patrols across the country) and repatriations (repression) at the border of Haitians trying to enter Dominican territory illegally.
Ramón Gutiérrez, Spokesman of the DGM explained that once arrested Haitians are taken to detention centers (administrative detention in a closed place) to complete the repatriation process and they are generally taken back to the border within 24 hours.
For other foreigners in an irregular migratory situation, plane tickets are requested and foreigners are officially handed over to the authorities concerned,
Between 2016 and November 2022, DGM teams repatriated 383,557 Haitians.
