Monday, February 20, 2023, the US Coast Guards Cutters Tampa and Vigilant repatriated 311 Haitians to Haiti, following an interception last week 55km northeast of Caibarien (Cuba) after a C-130 from the air station of the Coast Guard reported the presence of a suspicious vessel on February 15, 2023, around 1:30 p.m. and alerted the nearest coast guard.

Coast Guard Cutters James, Tampa, Isaac Mayo and Vigilant arrived on the scene and their crews rescued 311 men, women and children who were sailing on a dangerous vessel in poor condition and without lifesaving equipment. Once transshipped, all Haitians received food, water and basic medical care.

The migrant ship was sunk without risk of pollution.

Lt. Peter Hutchison, Coast Guard District 7 said, "Coast Guard and partner agency crews continue to patrol the Florida Straits, Windward and Mona [...] Our crews are doing their best to prevent people from illegally entering the United States and to discourage people from risking their lives by going to sea."

Since October 1st, 2022, (beginning of the 2022-2023 fiscal year) Coast Guard crews have intercepted 3,117 Haitian migrants against:
