iciHaiti - International Francophonie Day : Message from Lesly Condé
Monday, March 20, 2023, as part of the International Day of La Francophonie, Lesly Condé Ex-Consul General of Haiti in Chicago (August 2004 - May 2018), a message of reflections that we invite you to read and share.

Message from Lesly Condé :

"I am delighted, once again this year, to have the opportunity to greet all the members of the great Francophone family. We are, indeed, a very large and diverse community of nations with different trajectories that are united by a common language.

Celebrating the Francophonie means, above all, recognizing and respecting this tangible element characterizing peoples who, despite their clearly different backgrounds, manage to understand, get along and appreciate each other. The local colors that can be observed in the use of the French language from one country to another, from one territory to another or from one continent to another make this beautiful language always richer and more interesting. It's like a pleasant and endless adventure.

The Francophonie therefore allows us to converse in complete harmony with brothers alienated by history and geography. We discover fascinating worlds, we explore the complexity and richness of the human experience, we discover ourselves and we enrich our own world.

French ranks fifth among the world's languages in terms of its use. It is preceded by Mandarin, English, Spanish and Arabic. It shares with English the distinction of being a language spoken on all continents of the globe.

The French language is constantly enriched. It is spoken by approximately 321 million people in 106 countries and territories. She can also boast of being constantly protected by the prestigious French Academy. Haiti is proudly represented there by the eminent writer Danny Laferrière.

I wish you all an excellent Francophonie day."
