iciHaiti - Education : Union demands at their maximums 29/04/2023 11:06:51
In an Open Letter to the Minister of National Education dated April 25, 2023, the coordination of the Union Action of Teachers of Haiti (ASEHA), sets out its main demands. "ASEHA, despite its desire to prioritize the best interests of learners, joins the protesting unions and demands the adoption of concrete measures to meet the following demands" : 1 - A salary increase of at least 500% for all educational agents in the public service; 2 - The granting of a debit card to all teachers in the public service; 3 - Appointment of all qualified teachers and payment of salary arrears; 4 - The payment of probation fees to the last three promotions of the Training Center for Fundamental Education of Port-au-Prince (CFEF); 5 - The establishment of appropriate mechanisms to restore the authority of the State, deal with armed groups, restore public security and facilitate free movement in the country; 6 - The adoption of binding measures to make fuel available in all gas pumps in the country; 7 - The relaunch of the social housing construction project envisaged by the government of former Prime Minister Jean Henry Céant; 8 - The revitalization of the health insurance program for teachers; 9 - The development of a national project to provide each public school with a library containing works adapted to the teaching content; 10 - Equip each class with a sufficient number of benches or chairs to accommodate learners; 11 - The reconstruction of the Ministry of National Education in order to put an end to the waste of funds allocated to the rental of a plurality of spaces to accommodate its various services; 12 - The adoption of a national salary scale allowing teachers to be remunerated according to their academic grade, their hourly workload and their number of years of experience.
