iciHaiti - OPC : Note of sympathy on the death of Me Boniface Alexandre
In a note dated August 5, the Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC) said to have learned "with sadness and emotion" the news of the death of Me Boniface Alexandre https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40183-haiti-flash-former-president-ai-boniface-alexandre-passed-away-messages.html , lawyer, professor, former President of the Court of Cassation and former Provisional President of the Republic of Haiti from 2004-2006.

"[...] A man of integrity and an honest magistrate, Me Boniface Alexandre marked the Haitian judiciary with his discipline, his honesty and his professionalism. A courageous patriot, and always available to serve his country, he had agreed in 2020 to chair the Independent Advisory Committee which was to submit a draft Constitution to President Jovenel Moïse.

Despite the harsh criticism and threats made against the members of the said Committee, President Boniface Alexandre had carried out his work and fulfilled his mission to the end, thus demonstrating his resilience and his commitment to the fundamental principles of democracy.

Me Boniface Alexandre will therefore remain a historic figure for democracy and the strengthening of republican institutions in Haiti.

The OPC extends its sympathy to the members of President Alexandre's family and to all legal professionals in the country affected by this departure. »
