iciHaiti - FLASH : Haiti elected vice-president of the Executive Board of UNESCO

Friday October 27, 2023 in Paris, Haiti was elected by acclamation to the Vice-President of the Executive Council of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This is the first time in 77 years, since its membership in UNESCO, that Haiti has reached this position.

With this position, Haiti becomes a key member of the governance of the Executive Council and will notably be the voice of the 33 countries of the Latin America and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) region.

This election was welcomed by interventions from more than 20 countries including Brazil, Chile, Mexico, France, Switzerland and the Director General of UNESCO Ms. Audrey Azoulay.

It is the Ambassador Permanent Delegate of Haiti to UNESCO Ms. Dominique Dupuy, who supported and defended this candidacy for several months, who will sit for Haiti on the Executive Council.
