The Commander General of the Army (ERD), Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, inspected the conflict zone between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, regarding the construction of the irrigation canal being built in Haiti with taking of water on the Massacre River, to supervise the work carried out by the soldiers who guard the area.

On the sidelines of his inspection, he indicated that in the coming days, more reinforcements will arrive at the Dominican border, specifying "We have special units which are in training [...] the Dominican population can be reassured."

The Commander General of the army also announced that new facilities will soon be inaugurated where the troops will be housed, with the likelihood that another additional battalion will be added to the border (1,200 men)

He said that the area from Dajabón to Elías Piña was under permanent surveillance so that the security measures ordered by President Abinader were respected.

During his inspection, General Onofre highlighted the good work carried out by the Commander of the Tenth Infantry Battalion on the northern border, Colonel Wilson Peña Cruz and his soldiers, for the actions carried out during the recent conflicts between the Haitians and the Dominican military. He also highlighted the experience demonstrated by Commander Sosa and the soldiers under his command during the confrontation which could have resulted in an unmanageable situation with unpredictable consequences...
